For the operations within the GDS, German Banking Industry Committee (GBIC) provides an type-approval for ATMs.
VÖB e.V. is in charge of the administration of the approvals.
The approval of the GBIC does not only comprises the mandatory
functions of the German ATM application but also the MasterCard brands
“Maestro, Cirrus, MasterCard Credit” for their usage at ATMs in Germany.
An additional approval from MasterCard for German ATMs is not necessary
anymore. The GBIC aims for a similar solution with VISA International
and other card schemes.
